Driving over the West Gate Bridge, with its panoramic views over the City and Port Phillip Bay, is a great way to start the day as we head south west to Werribee Park. In 1877, Scottish squatters Thomas and Andrew Chirnside realised their dream of recreating the world they had left behind. At Werribee, near the young city of Melbourne and the centre of their huge pastoral empire, they had completed an Italianate mansion that was without parallel.

Around the Bay

"There rose on the site near the river a palatial home which in cost, in scale and in magnificence was to be virtually without rival in the colony, perhaps the most complete embodiment of the ideals and aspirations of the Victorian pastoralist in that 'sunlit afternoon' of his age."

Set on over 130 hectares of bushland fronting the river, Werribee Park stands today as a monument to the wealth, elegance and tranquility of Australia's pastoral heritage.

Wool Museum

Wool Museum

We move onto the Wool Museum in the City of Geelong and after a short visit we head east to Queenscliff for lunch at Mietta's Queenscliff Hotel overlooking the bay.

After a relaxing lunch we board the new ferry Queenscliff for your trip across the bay to Sorrento. At Sorrento we view the early settler's graves and many other historic points of interest before returning along the scenic Beach Road to Melbourne.

Visit: Sail Sorrento website.
